Dear All, Sad first post! I have had V962 GBJ for quite some time but it has been sat on my drive for far too long, the planned restoration just isn’t happening, my wife is nagging me and she now needs a new home (the car not my wife). I am unsure as to whether the car can be rescued or, sadly, might only be useful for parts. It hasn’t been started since it was parked up many years ago. I’m not mechanically minded and simply don’t have any spare time so not in a position to do any works myself. I can of course just pop it on ebay and see what happens but would rather the car to go someone who appreciates it so thought I would see if anyone here might like it. Its in Maidenhead, Berkshire. Happy to answer any questions or if I can figure it out, take and post any photos. Many thanks, Hamish
Hello, I see you are in Maidenhead, just so people know. How about a few pics? I am happy to put them up if you are not sure how too, also an idea of price. Sadly I have waaay to many cars and am rather along way from you!
I'll take some photos tonight. Not too sure about price, maybe just a sensible donation. Would rather the car be saved by someone here than broken up.
Hamish, To be quite frank, you have quite a low miles car there. Yes I'm sure its not looking its best after a long lay off and parked outside, I presume it stopped being used in 2009? May I ask why? But, Rover R3's generally have very limited corrosion points which we know how to repair, I imagine the sunroof seals have shrunk and its possibly quite horrible inside today as a consequence, but even given that, smartening up interiors isnt usually much more than giving the seats lots of hide food! It will certainly need a cam belt change BEFORE trying anything like cranking it...but I'll bet it will start surprisingly easily afterwards. It will probably have quite a bit of surface corrosion underneath too, but that will be more cosmetic than an issue. You dont necessarily need to be mechanically minded, just have an enthusiasm to get stuck in and with our help, you could invest £1500 now and have a working car again! Which is an off the cuff estimate of what it could fetch on ebay in its current condition... As it happens we did not have your car in the Megafile, so it actually happens to be the only survivor from the Ipswich Vehicle Licencing Office. I will get back to you tomorrow with your build number once I've done some checking.
Welcome Hamish! If it's help and inspiration to get it back on the road, or just helping raise awareness for sale, I'm sure it will be offered! Either way, welcome to the community!
Looking at those pics, I don't think it would take much to get it back on the road. If you're not in a position to keep it, don't sell it at a give away price.
Business closed down Oct 22... Been on this site since the 1920's..After Rover folded it became a TVR and Noble dealership.....but has struggled in recent years. Apparently still in the same family throughout...
This car is for sale on Facebook, under the group name classic cars under £3000 pre 2000. I believe he is asking £500 and there is quite a lot of interest at that figure.
I do hope that's intentional - just come and get me price - If I were in the market I'd have been making contact directly I saw that...I do hope it doesnt get hoovered up by a hopeful breaker....
