help needed my brother is in Portugal and the Steptronic has gone into safe mode, as he had been through a puddle I suggested the inhibitor switch, which has been replaced and things are still the same.

There is not a soul who knows about Rovers out there  would pScan pick this up? I can’t see anything linking it to Steptronic boxes?

Bad news...... no idea about steptronics.

Disconnect and reconnect battery worth a go?

A quote from the guy that developed pscan on RoverTech (March 2018)

"The only Steptronic functionality is reading error codes from the MEMS3.

We would like to improve this but really we need access to a car to do it."

Finally got an OBD plugged in and comes up with P1775 which is transmission fault..... very helpful

It lurches and goes to 5k revs without notice and at time just goes into safe mode.... the only thing that comes to my mind may be speed sensor???

What about this... MAF???? Resulting in high throttle position?

On .org there is member from Sweden with problem with steptronic on MGF. He has neither lights on dash nor on the gear cover. He is also trying to find out where problem is.

Due to one thing and another I have not had chance to look at this since it came back to the UK!
Today however I removed speed sensor, cleaned all the connections and replaced, removed the actuator switch cleaned all the connections and replaced, did the same with the large connector at the front of the box. Nothing really obvious was found!
However now the car just Revs from start up and won’t stop..... any ideas?

Can't really help much unless you've done what I would do which is disconnect and reconnect every connector and spray with electrical cleaner! Sorry, that's the best I can offer at the moment unless you know someone with testbook!

Isn't that same behaviour as BRMs? The problem tried to be solved with TPS exchange?

Thanks both, but :slap: I have solved the revving, I must have knocked a pipe slightly from the throttle body!

Transmission light still comes on, but I am happy that connections under the bonnet are good!

Next to move in the car.....

I have done/tested all I can, short of replacing every sensor and switch that’s it. It’s going to a transmission specialist who can read the gearbox faults Monday! Then it’s fate will be decided!!!

I agreed a price with transmission people to replace a solenoid in the box, boardline price that I wanted to pay!

Waited 4 days picked it up in a mad rush and half way home it overheated like mad, Then the transmission light came on!! Managed to limp home, interesting that it does not over heat on tickover so I think the transmission is overheating,! Thoughts?

    Not a happy bunny!

I've often seen gearbox oil changes on these car shows!!!! Is it worth changing the oil and cleaning/changing the filter?
