    garythesnail Drives a real bubble.

Sounds like it's out by one tooth on a cam sprocket. 29 or 30 teeth so 12degrees per tooth..... or 'about 10'.

I suppose easy to do....but easy to fix if this is tbe cause.

I don’t think the MG dealer network really knows much about the 3 at all. I went in to my local one to chat about oil, they use a really generic cheap brand that I personally wouldn’t have anywhere near my car and the specs the 3 needs for emissions regs are pretty precise. The oil they were using ‘meets’ the specs but it’s like saying burgers are all the same when comparing a Maccy D’s cheeseburger against a wagyu beef quarter pounder.

Not to mention the fact that the EU5 and EU6 engines have different oil requirements (and service intervals) which they don't all pay attention too...

Yup! It’s so much more intricate than the dealers seem to realise (or care about).

Are you in 3 ownership now?

Nope, was just discussing oils with them. It’s a similar story for a lot of new cars with regards to emissions, garages trying to keep costs down with a ‘one oil suits all’ when it doesn’t work like that anymore.

Stop/start has a lot to answer for in that respect

The service interval on my MG3 is 15,000 miles (the same as the later ZRs) and I think uses 10w40. The stop/start EU6 has a service interval of 10,000 miles (less than the BRM!) and I think an oil requirement of 5w30?

Based on service intervals alone, that's a huge cost difference to the customer. I've done 65,000 miles now - that would be 6 services on the EU6, a conservative estimate of £200/service = £1,200. On my EU5, that's 4 services, or £800.

The reality is that is costs more than that for either scenario with other wear items, MOTs and so forth, plus I try to look after mine better than recommended. The servicing costs also fluctuate between dealers, service plans and even odd vs even servicing intervals.

...but I'm preaching to the choir :D

Well, the new dealer, who took the car in on Wednesday, with a huge amount of unknowns and potentially opening a can of worms... has fixed the MG already and called me this lunchtime to arrange collection :D:yay:

Off to get it first thing tomorrow

Before you bring it home does it conform to the criteria to be on your drive?

It'll be getting a good test drive :D

However, to meet the full criteria, I thought I'd ask Alan for some MINI badges

...and is performing as it should! :D

OK, it's no BRM, but it's enough for the daily driver :)
