Hi all Ok a little history , I was an apprentice at a rover dealer in Stafford and 1 of the cars I carried out a PDI on was a very late registered BRM Ideally I’d like to find that car and buy it I worked for Hartwell Charles Clark at Stafford and I think it was around 1999 2000 but not 100 percent I fell in love and have wanted 1 since so my question is would anyone know how I’d find it or even a reg to start the hunt
@peasantslife will know more than most, he will no doubt be along shortly! Good luck! Late reg, would be around 2000 I believe, although there are some beyond that! A look here may help, there again it may not! https://thebrm.co.uk/index.php?threads/official-rover-200-brm-le-build-list.9013/
Hello Jonny! Lets see where we can go with this. Sadly we do not know - from records - which dealership got which build number. For the last few years I have been asking owners if they are prepared to share the supplying dealer data with me. If they still have the original Glovebox pac, its in there. However there is no obligation and some prefer to not engage. What I can say is that currently I do not have your dealership listed amongst the thirty known Birmingham registrations. I can narrow that down by saying I do know dealers for about a half dozen of those cars. Now, Birmingham is an interesting case because Rover also used Birmingham to register some vehicles internally, the 6 Pre Prod vehicles ( WOM) and some internal employee lease cars carry Birmingham plates too. so I can eliminate them too, which leaves me with just 12 registrations to ponder. Lets just step back as I am making a big assumption. How did your dealership register their new cars, or more precisely which VRO was being used. Was it being done ....Gosh I went there myself a few times on behalf of my then host. Kitts Green? Basically was your dealership back office doing the registrations or was another branch doing it for you? Put simply I do need to know the registration series if we are going to get close. Assuming it was being registered at the Birmingham office the chances are it has an xOx series plate. Now when you say you think it was a late registered car...Why do you think that? The problem being that nearly 500 BRM's were registered in September 99, leaving only 163 uk registrations 1st Oct 99 onwards. Maybe I can narrow it down another way. Do you recall your dealership having more than one BRM? Or, since you are so close to Longbridge, did your dealership have the car sitting on stock for some time or was it ordered/supplied/registered and out of the door in just a couple of days? That I can track! Another thing that may help me...In your PDI I imagine was an Air Con Test, did this car have A/C? Perhaps asking you if you drove it in and out of your PDI bay may jog your memory of the weather? Hot/sunny summertime or drizzly winter? We even had snow .. Now to put the dampers on. Currently we know about 600 of the 797 UK series built cars. But only around 250-300 cars survive today in the UK. and fewer than 100 of them are actually in use. So by far the greater chance is that your car has been scrapped or at best is in long time sorn. The good news! Really it doesnt matter! as all BRM's are Green with Red trim, Just buy the one you fancy - with the level of work you wish to put in. You can always say ' I PDI'd one just like this in my apprentice days', to anyone and they will be impressed.
From what I remember cars were registered from site It was definitely an AC car as thought that was quite a luxury The car sat at the dealer for a long time before being sold , I remember it being on the stands up in the air in front of the showroom The reason I say late car as we were told at the time the car had been sat for a while before coming to us unregistered to be sold , there was already surface rust underneath it I’ve been trying to find dates when I was there and it was 2000 2001, latest early part of 2002 as prior to that I was working under a qualified tech
And I had a look through the surviving page and looks like a look of them are scrapped which is a crying shame
Well, the last two cars to go into warranty were Birmingham plates, in November 2000 but no A/C. Prior to that - there was an A/C car registered in late Jan2000 and warranty was started for 14th Feb. I have an early Jan2000 car with A/C And there was a car delivered for 23rd Dec 99. In addition I know (am sure) there still at least another half dozen Birmingham cars which were supplied as part of small batches, one of which could be your car, but as yet we do not know their registrations..
