I fear I may have asked before... Whilst I know the names given to the colour when Ottawa supplied the same product to another vehicle manufacturer, I dont think I've ever seen reference to a name given to it in the BRM application. We all know we have Ash Grey dashboards, and side panelling, but I cant recall seeing anywhere anything other than (lower case) red leather. Is there anything in mini, or MGF/TF documentation? both used the same colour for cabin highlighting, seat facings and steering wheels.. And now I can announce to the forum that if you do need seat bolsters replaced, steering wheels refinished, wish to have rear head restraints, all those items and more can now be accommodated with 'genuine' BRM leather. By which I mean, Shrink optimised hides in exactly the correct colour and with the correct grain. Only the top layer of the dermis is used, and further resist stretch and shrink through the tanning process. The 'split' hides are not so stable. Also worth mentioning, this is through coloured, not a painted or dipped surface hide (like much furniture). I visualise this as a repair service rather than a wholesale 'new interior' proposition as the number of hides is finite, and I dont know if I'll want to invest again! And I'm not anticipating wanting to sell full hides.
I can't say I recall ever seen a reference to anything other than 'red leather' or 'quilted red leather'. I'm unfamiliar with the use of the red on other models too. Interestingly though, am I correct in thinking the whole seat is not leather, only the front fascia and rear bench?
I recall seeing a reference to the red colour used in the 200 BRM somewhere but can't remember where. It might have been in relation to the red interior offered in the 1999 Mini Cooper LE finished in Brooklands Green and fitted with the Sportpack, which had red interior trim although not to the same level as the 200 BRM. The Grenadine Red colour, I think, was offered exclusively in the MGF 75th Anniversary Edition in 1999 and was a less vibrant shade of red to the regular shade of red offered on regular mainline model variants. Unfortunately, sales brochures for both the aforementioned Mini and MGF limited edition model variants were very rare and I never managed to acquire any copies. However, I might have the press release for the MGF 'anniversary' edition somewhere...
I have no idea what Cambro had to do with this. (I only find a US centric Catering plastics business today.) Though by the label one could guess they may have stitched the seating. Lear were the Cabin Integrators - ie they were responsible for delivering all the cabin parts to Rover. In order to do so they commissioned their own Leather supplier Ottawa leather to provide processed hides, or more probably 'trim kits', so pre made covers would arrive at whatever sub assembly site was used, where seats would have been built up, and delivered to the days schedule onto the line.
Ah! I recall the name, but wasnt aware they were trimmers to rover, long gone now. Not in my general remit until most recent times now I've become involved in soft trim.
