Hello All, Did some small work today on the car. New bulbs in de central switch stack, installed a new heater resistor pack and now all the heater fan settings work and replaced the interior and luggage space light for new ones. The last item was the defective driver side window, which quit working from working to simply not going down. I suspected it was the window controller, so I purchased a working second hand item. But when operating the switch I can hear the original window controller clicking and when I replaced it with the new one, the same clicking occured. It seems to me that it is not the window controller unit, but perhaps the electric motor itself? Any thoughts? Regards, Allard
I think you have solved your own problem, another regulator should do the trick, it all comes as one! Bit of a pain to fit a couple of damaged knuckles but easy enough! Sounds like you have made some good progress though!
Do you feel a jerk on the glass when you try to motor UP or DOWN? I'm pretty sure its got an overload cut out on it.. It wasnt uncommon for rollers to stick, and then wear which caused the glass to jam. My inclination would be to drop the regulator out and see if it works without any load on it first. I have replacement rollers.
There is no jerk on the glass, I have checked it when operating the switch. Anyway, It is my understanding it is the regulator which needs to be checked. Either it is sticking and replace the rollers or else...... Replacing regulators I am familiar with, as I used to have a Lancia Lybra 2.0 5 cylinder (okay, it is out, I am a sucker for the unsual cars) , on which I have replaced all four window regulators in one day.
Oh? the 'executive' version...We didnt have Lancia here in the UK so didnt get that version, but as I worked in Italy from 2012 to 18 for months at a time, so saw some down in the poor south of the country. (Mainly Romans when they came down in August!)
That's is our beloved cat Topsy, unfortunately no longer with us, due to sudden illness he left us last month. Only 6 years old.
He looked lovely, sorry to hear the bad news, a fair few of us have cats it must go hand in hand with having a brm.
News on the car is that I still have to replace the window regulator. Fact is I am contemplating to combine this job with replacing the door cards with the replacement ones from peasantslife. Need some spare time as work and other private ventures take up time.
I repaired my passenger side regulator earlier this year. Used some rollers from peasantslife. If you get them, they're just a smidge oversize. A few seconds with a good file and they're working well. The lesson is....don't do any welding unless you can keep the old rollers really cool.
? what was oversize? I sold countless all those years ago, No need to weld, the pin for the roller is 'upset' (bumped with a hammer) into the regulator arms...FYI the R3 reg is common to Disco2 fronts....
An arm on the regulator snapped, I welded it back. The original rollers were a poly wheel which don't like heat! Rollers supplied wouldn't quite go in the channels. A quick flick round with a file and bobs your uncle. The pin got a couple of bumps with the pein end of the hammer, job done...Happy as larry!
Ah! The mechanism arm takes a great deal more energy if the roller stops rolling - no longer rolling was the failure mode, then the roller slides in the channel eventually wearing a flat onto it, then at each reverse of direction the mech moves before the glass which eventually results in the glass being jammed in the guides - you can always just lift the offending end of the glass and it'll motor again.. I am surprised you couldnt get the roller into its horizontal guide though. I dont recall anyone else reporting that issue..
